Spring e-waste collection drive in KingstonMarch 5, 2010
A special collection event for electronic waste will be held Friday, March 5, 2010 and Saturday, March 6 at 400 Stockade Drive in Kingston. Sponsored by The Mac Works and implemented by Advanced Recovery, Inc., the two-day event will benefit Sustainable Hudson Valley with a portion of the affordable collection fees.
Both the business and household collection events will accept used monitors, printers, keyboards, VCRs, batteries, cell phones, terminals, cables, fax machines, radios, modems, CRTs, telephones, TVs, CPUs, copiers, scanners, DVD players, typewriters, and stereo equipment.
• The collection for businesses, school districts and government agencies is Friday, March 5, from 12 noon - 4 p.m.. Pre-registration is required and may be done by calling Bob Travers, 845-858-8809 or emailing btravers@advancedrecovery.com.
• The collection for individuals is Saturday, March 6, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. A fee of $10 per carload covers costs. No pre-registration is needed.
A similar event last fall diverted nearly 24 tons from the waste stream and raised over $500 for Sustainable Hudson Valley. According to Travers, “The equipment we collect is dismantled to the levels required by law and then sent to vendors of metal and plastic, or where there is no market it is melted down for re-use.” Advanced Recovery has a “zero landfill” policy, he added.
